Yeşilçam Jewellery: Live Exchange Rate Tracking & Mobile/Web Project

In addition to working at Finastech, I continued to develop myself personally, developing projects and applications.Yeşilçam Kuyumculuk was a business with various branches in Mardin (Artuklu) and Istanbul (Fatih). Jewelers in Istanbul generally track gold exchange rates through Harem Altın. What I was asked to do was develop a promotional website and then a mobile app to track exchange rates. Because we wrote in React Native at Finastech, the code I wrote could run on both Android and iOS.

Just as users can track basic exchange rates on the website, they can also share their products in the store. The key here is the background, the admin panel. Live market tracking can be configured through the admin panel. Exchange rates can be displayed and spreads can be entered based on market data. Below, you'll see the list of currencies to be displayed. The admin panel allows you to control which currencies will appear, whether they will appear on the list, and how they will be displayed and sorted. The Buy/Sell information displays the spread information we'll determine based on the incoming data. For example, if the system we're using for Pure Gold is 5000 lira for Buy and 5100 lira for Sell, and we select "Add 10 lira to Buy and 20 lira less for Sell," we can display the buy as 4990 lira and the sell as 5020 lira. As can be seen in the details below, we can display the spread not only as an amount but also as a percentage. We can specify that the incoming data be displayed as 0.2 percent more or less than the specified value. The system's operation is designed to be as flexible as possible. With this work, Yeşilçam Kuyumculuk can display its own exchange rates to its customers.

You can track exchange rates through Live Markets, which are updated approximately every 5 seconds. Instant translations are available on the site, making it easier for both customers and employees. The site's Live Markets screen is shown below.

This was the first time I'd developed such a large project individually. Because the data you see in the application is only updated, and behind the scenes, a lot of work was done to prevent system disruptions. Just for reference, we normally fetch data every 5 seconds. However, my hosting provider allows automatic queries to be run as soon as every 15 minutes, but this is a very long time for us. To do this, we implemented an hourly sleep command in the PHP code to ensure the application sends requests every 5 seconds. To avoid system fatigue, requests aren't sent every 5 seconds every hour. Requests are sent every 5 seconds from 8 AM to 8 PM, and every 15 minutes during other periods. This way, we're streamlining the system. Then, we had to ask ourselves, "Is it logical to keep the data on our side?" or "What if the system we're pulling data from crashes?" I developed the project by developing solutions for various situations. It was a wonderful experience for me. I'm still developing it (October 2025). You can see the screenshots of the app below.
